Jeff
and his wife Dana wanted to find a way to help women athletes
who come to Cal as walk-ons and have the hope of earning a scholarship,
so they established the Women Driven Scholarship Fund at the University
of California, Berkeley.
The
scholarships are awarded in softball, volleyball, field hockey,
golf and track & field, and are based on academic achievement,
economic need, coaches' recommendations and athletic ability.
In exchange for the scholarships, the recipients perform community
service by mentoring younger female athletes and making visits
to local schools.
Jeff
says, I wouldnt be where I am today without my experiences
going to Cal and this is a way of repaying the school. I want
my young daughter Lauren and other girls growing up to have more
opportunities to play sports because it is such a positive experience."
