2006 HIGHLIGHTS

Jess Chavez, 75, of Albany ran his thirtieth Glide Floss Bridge to Bridge race on Sunday (Oct 1) and took first place in his age group (70-99) for the 12k run with a time of 1:11:21. (Last year he was first in the 7k race for 70-74 year olds.) Having participated in every race since its start 30 years ago, he says Bridge to Bridge is one of the best runs in the Bay Area because it's beautiful, well organized and "you get a lot of stuff at the end." Men at the Starting LineBrian Kretz, 29 of Novato, was selected to wear the prestigious #1 race bib and motivate the runners at the starting line at the Glide Floss Bridge to Bridge Run, which benefits Special Olympics of Northern California. He was interviewed by KNBR's Gary Radnich. Unlike some of the other elite runners in the race, he wasn't disappointed that he didn't come in first. “Whenever I compete, I remember the Special Olympics oath we say at our games…‘Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt,’” said Brian.StretchYoung men getting ready to runAnd they're off . . .
